Early Treatment for HIV Act (ETHA) Reintroduced in 110th Congress

Representatives Elliot Engel (D-NY) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) joined Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in reintroducing the Early Treatment for HIV/AIDS Act (ETHA, HR 3326) on August 2.  ETHA was reintroduced in the Senate on March 13 by Senators Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY).  If passed, ETHA would give states the option to extend Medicaid coverage to low-income individuals living with HIV.  Currently, individuals first must become disabled by AIDS before they are eligible for Medicaid benefits, care and treatment.  Click here to read AIDS Alliance's letter of support for ETHA.
