Global Pediatric HIV/AIDS Bill Introduced in Congress

Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) introduced the "Global Pediatric HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment Act" (S 2472) on December 13.  AIDS Alliance is an organizational supporter of the bill, which aims to increase funding and support for pediatric treatment programs and prevention of mother-to-child-transmission globally. The bill also includes a comprehensive, five-year strategy to prevent new HIV infections in children and to ensure that the treatment of children infected with HIV keeps pace with their infection rate.  The bill amends the President's Emergency Plan for HIV/AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which is up for reauthorization in 2008.
