Congress Extends SCHIP and Abstinence-Only ProgramFollowing passage in the Senate on December 18 and the House the following day, Congress sent President Bush a Medicare bill (S 2499) that would delay for six months a Medicare physician fee cut set to take effect on January 1, 2008 and also extend the current authorization for the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) through March 2009. more >
CDC Updating HIV Incidence EstimatesFollowing recent media reports speculating that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) new estimates of domestic HIV incidence will show an increase of new infections from 40,000 each year to close to 60,000, CDC issued a statement on December 3 clarifying that while it is developing an improved system to estimate the number of new HIV infections in the U.S., the estimates are not yet final. more >
