UPDATE ON HIV VACCINE RESEARCH
HIV Vaccine Overview--What's True? What's Myth?
- Results from the STEP Trial
- Results from the Thai trial
- HVTN Trial 505

Presented by:
Katharine Kripke, Ph.D.
Assistant Director, Vaccine Research Program
Division of AIDS, NIAID, NIH, DHHS

AIDS Alliance is delighted that Dr. Katherine Kripke from the National Institutes of Health will be presenting this webinar to the AIDS Alliance for Children Youth & Families community. It's free and is intended for all interested persons, including consumers and a wide audience of providers including nurses, social workers, casemanagers and physicians. It's a great opportunity to use as a staff development tool--organize a staff meeting around this, or use as a follow-up to World AIDS Day. There will be time to have a question and answer period with Dr. Kripke.

AIDS Alliance is part of the National Institute of Health sponsored HIV Vaccine Research Education Initiative. This initiative was formed to create an environment in which HIV affected communities and individuals are more aware, educated, and supportive of HIV vaccine research and have more positive attitudes towards clinical trial participation. There is still a lot of misunderstanding about HIV vaccine research. The success of HIV vaccine studies depends on the understanding, trust, support, and participation of all communities. Finding a safe and effective vaccine to prevent the spread of HIV is our best hope for stopping the AIDS pandemic. With over 40 million people living with HIV worldwide, and over 20 million lives lost, the need for an HIV vaccine is more urgent than ever. To end AIDS, the world needs prevention, care, treatment, and a vaccine.

For those new to webinars: You will dial in to a conference call where Dr. Kripke will give her remarks. At the same time you will log on to your computer and access a website. There you will view the slide presentation about HIV vaccines as Dr. Kripke gives her talk.
